In the Chakra system of the Vedic teachings the body is comprised of thousands of the river like pathways called “nadis” meaning rivers in Sankrit, Aibhneacha in Old Irish which are connected to the chakras meaning “wheels”, or Rotha. The primary Chakras are seven but nine in other opinions. The largest of the rivers or nadis of the body is the spinal cord which runs through the chakras up and down from the base of the spine to the brain. The name for the largest nadi is called “Sushumna” in Sanskrit, in the west can dub this the “Danube” of the body. In the Vedic teachings the body is likened to the Earth with rivers with the spine being the largest of rivers. Without a proper flow of water to all parts of the body the earth cannot flourish and bring forth sustainable life. Likewise if our energy is blocked in our body we bring death to ourselves from neglect.
